Another Reason Why Sweden Rules

You can be an artist, and not starve.

This article was featured in Pitchfork, the leading online news source for independent music. It is extremely interesting, connecting health care to artistic creativity and freedom. It writes that Sweden's ability to be a leader in indie music is directly related to universal health care. Give it a read, it is very well researched and written ... definitely worth your time.

Miss Li

Last week, my friends and I went to the House of Sweden to go see the world famous Miss Li perform. First off, the Swedish embassy is incredible, very modern architecture and a beautiful location on Georgetown's waterfront. The concert was also so much fun, Miss Li is a great singer. In fact, she has been featured in i-pod commercials, the show WEEDS, and a new volvo commercial. Plus, she is super cute and her band is awesome. It's def pop music, but with a great vintage feel.

It was the perfect adventure to do my first night back in DC, I even met some new Swedish friends !!

Dance Dance

So last night, my friend Bettan, Kata, and I ventured out to a 5 year birthday jubillee of a club that was hosted in this beautiful old building outside of the Stockholm's center. It was awesome, and huge. Each room had its own theme. There room with a really sweet live band was decorated with branches, crowns, and cutouts of forest animals and birds ... it looked like a magical dream forest. The other rooms were filled with smoke machines and light shows. It was so totally cool, with a really hot crowd. Swedes truly are so good looking, fashionable, and fun.

Uppsala

On Tuesday, I went up to visit my dear friend Sofia in Uppsala, about 45 minutes from Stockholm. It's a small city, with a HUGE university that was built in the 1400's. There are so many young people biking about, and it was beautiful to see it in the snow. We did some sight seeing around the city, went to the old church, went dancing at the nations (which are SO cool, almost like a frat, but also serve as restaurants, bars, dance clubs, etc ... but you join according to your local province or city, for ex. Sofia is a part of the Stockholm nation ... the idea started at Oxford and Cambridge back in the day, when students from all over Europe came to study and wanted to live with people from their home country ) visited the libraries, and went out for coffee. It was such a great trip, and I was so happy to see Sofia after almost 2 years of being apart.

Yum

Tonight I'm going to dinner with some friends at a wine and tapas bar below my apartment called Sardin, it's absolutely adorable. I can't wait to try it, it looks so inviting!

Stockholm

Babies

The other day, my cousin and her little baby girl came to visit and have a slumber party with us. SO FUN !! She is the cutest, and Maria is the best mamma that I have ever met.

Babies are also like the trendiest accessory in my hood, everyone has one. Fathers get pregnancy leave in Sweden too, so it's awesome to see all these young hip men walking around with strollers and babies. Way cool.

Sverige !!

Today I woke up for my first full day in Stockholm, in my beautiful new apartment. It's in a lovely neighborhood, full of cute little cafes, bars, and restaurants. Last night, Anki and I had a deli dinner at a Greek restaurant up the street. After that, I went out for a late night of dancing, catching the sunrise as I came home.

After some sleep, we went out to the country to visit my Uncle and had the best bbq in the snow out on their dock. It was so pretty.

I'm going to grab a sunset coffee at a little cafe down the street. I just LOVE sweden !!!

Mad Tea Party

So tomorrow I am having a mad tea party !! Here is our adorable invitation, drafted by my dear friend Laura, it's so creative and cute. I'm really excited.

Hello my loves!

In celebration of Tim Burton's imaginative adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, I am hosting a "frabjous" gathering at my pad!

Since Burton believes the best people are a little bonkers, let's get lost in some marvelous drinks and costume inspired delerium this Saturday night at my Alice in Wonderland cocktail tea party!

We will have one drink that makes you BIG and some that makes you small, but luckily there will be some hookah so everyone will feel juuuuuust the right size !!! Feel free to bring some of your own potions and treats, and a few friends to make the night magical.

Whether you wish to arrive as an Alice, a white rabbit, a Hatter, a queen, or fall somewhere in between, we can't wait to see what you come up with. We will have a few costume-ish pieces available for those of you who fail to arrive in the proper mad attire but everyone should go a little crazy and wear/bring something fun!

Don't be late for a VERY important date!! (party starts at 10:00pm)

Cheers!
